
Dealing with Electrical Noise in Multi-Press Shops
If you’re running a few large-scale printing presses in one room, you know it’s a bit of a jungle in there. It’s loud, it’s fast, and electrically? It’s a mess. When you’ve got several high-power UV systems kicking in at the same time, they create a ton of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Think of it like static on a radio, but for your power lines. This “noise” leaks into the control circuits of your lamps, and that’s when things get annoying. You start seeing flickers, lamps burning out way too early, or intensity that just jumps around for no reason. Why your standard replacements keep failing Most off-the-shelf UV lamps aren’t built for this kind of chaos. Their ballasts and circuits are wide open to interference. In a shop with ten or more presses, those voltage spikes just pile up. We took a different approach. We built our smart UV lamps with reinforced filtering and isolated circuitry. It basically acts as a shield. It stops the “cross-talk” that happens when one machine powers up and accidentally messes with the stability of the lamp sitting right next to it. Keeping the cure steady The real goal here is a steady arc discharge. We spent a lot of time tweaking the impedance matching between the lamp and the power supply. Why? Because you need your UV output to stay flat, regardless of what’s happening with the power on the rest of the floor. When the light is steady, the cure is steady. Without that stability, you end up with “under-cured” spots. You know the drill: smears, ink that won’t stick, and a lot of wasted substrate. It’s a headache you don’t need. A couple of things to keep in mind Here’s the trade-off: better shielding takes up more space. To get this kind of interference rejection, we have to use beefier filtering components. That means our driver units are a bit larger than those cheap, unshielded versions. Before you order, just double-check that your cabinets have enough breathing room for the larger hardware. Also, while these are designed to be easy drop-in replacements, they aren’t magic. You still need clean grounding wires. No amount of shielding can fix a floating ground or a frayed earth connection on a dirty factory floor. Keep your grounds tight, and these lamps will do the rest.
