If you’ve ever run a fish canning line, you know the headache of “thermal inertia.” It’s a fancy way of saying your curing oven stays scorching hot long after you’ve flipped the switch. When you’re using old-school heating elements, the oven just soaks up all that heat. If the line jams or you have to stop suddenly, you can’t just “turn off” the heat. The oven keeps baking. Before you know it, you’ve over-cured the coating or, worse, ruined a whole batch of product. It’s frustrating, and it’s a waste of money. The “Instant-Off” Trick We solve this by switching to shortwave IR lamps. Think of it like a light bulb versus a radiator. A radiator takes forever to warm up and forever to cool down. But these IR lamps? They use a tungsten filament in quartz to send energy straight to the coating. They don’t bother heating up the air or the oven walls first. But here’s the catch: you can’t ignore your ventilation. Since these lamps put out so much power, your exhaust fans need to be up to the task. If they aren’t pulling the ambient heat out of the shell, the lamp housing can get too hot. Just make sure your airflow is dialed in, and you’re golden.
